As part of the project entitled Works on the Warsaw cross-city line on the Warszawa Wschodnia – Warszawa Zachodnia section, stage IIa, TORPOL S.A. will carry out a comprehensive reconstruction of the Warszawa Wschodnia station, construction of new connecting lines (No. 7 and 9) and modernization of the Warszawa Stadion stop.
The project’s value is PLN 3.6 billion gross (PLN 2.9 billion net), and its completion date is 51 months from the contract date.
As part of the comprehensive reconstruction of Warszawa Wschodnia, the station’s track layout will be changed and the agglomeration tracks, including the overhead catenary lines, railway traffic control equipment, and telecommunications systems will be modernized. Seven modern, roofed platforms will be constructed, equipped with elevators and escalators, a new connecting passage between the existing tunnels, and a dynamic passenger information system.
The existing underpasses on Warszawa Wschodnia will be connected by a new pedestrian tunnel under Platform 6, enabling more convenient movement around the station and access to the new Tysiąclecia Street. The project also includes the reconstruction of the Warszawa Stadion passenger stop. A new platform will be added to serve passengers until all work on the cross-city line is completed. A link between the train stop and the Stadion Narodowy metro station will also be built. This will enable direct transfers from trains to the metro without having to leave the building.A new underpass will be built at Chodakowska Street, providing residents with a connecting route between Praga Południe and Praga Północ. It will provide railway workers with access to buildings and offices. As part of the project, a structure will be built beneath the station for a future road tunnel along Tysiąclecia Street, which will be implemented by the city.
The reconstruction of Warszawa Wschodnia also brings significant changes to the rail traffic management system. A viaduct connecting the station to Line 9 will be constructed. The massive, 29-span structure (the entire viaduct is over 1,600 meters long) will support two tracks and enable improved connections towards Gdańsk, Olsztyn, and Legionowo. A new signal box equipped with computer control systems will also be built. The work will also include railway viaducts over Targowa, Siwca and Zamoyskiego Streets.
