After 20 years trains return to the Nowy Sącz – Marcinkowice route
As part of the inaugural journey along the Nowy Sącz-Marcinkowice section of railway line No. 104, modernized by a consortium led by TORPOL SA, invited guests and journalists had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work completed. The special POLREGIO train departed Nowy Sącz station for Marcinkowiece station, from where, after a visit, the guests traveled to the Nowy Sącz Miasto stop, where a press briefing organized by PKP PLK SA took place.
Passenger service on the modernized route was restored after a 20-year hiatus on Sunday, June 14th. Trains run on a completely rebuilt, electrified infrastructure capable of speeds of 120 km/h and equipped with modern rail traffic control systems. The project included, among other things, replacing 12.6 km of track, constructing a new railway bridge over the Dunajec River, and constructing grade-separated road intersections and pedestrian underpasses in Nowy Sącz. The Nowy Sącz Chełmiec and Nowy Sącz Miasto stops were also modernized, and a new station with an underpass was built in Marcinkowice. The infrastructure has been adapted to the needs of people with limited mobility and freight transport.
