New tamping machine in TORPOL’s fleet

The universal tamping machine Unimat 09-4×8/4S Dynamic is the latest investment of TORPOL S.A. One of the most state-of-the-art machines of the Austrian company Plasser&Theurer joined the group of highly-efficient construction machines being at the Company’s disposal. The Company’s latest acquisition is a machine used for tamping the track and turnouts. Performing works in the area of vertical and horizontal positioning of tracks and turnouts along with simultaneous stabilisation of track structure has been combined in one universal machine. So far, the Company was equipped with three tamping machines from the Austrian manufacturer, of which only one operated using the same technology.

– “Investments in highly efficient machines have always been our priority,” commented Grzegorz Grabowski, the President of the Management Board of TORPOL S.A. – “This class of equipment is perfect for construction and modernisation of railway lines, as well as for works related to their current maintenance. A broadly developed equipment and machinery base is one of our competitive advantages, ensuring increased economic efficiency, a high level of self-sufficiency and flexibility in the execution of construction works, as well as the necessary execution resource for the maintenance of the repair technology of main railway lines” – emphasised President Grabowski.

Unimat 09-4×8/4S Dynamic guarantees the highest quality of tamping of tracks and turnouts by applying tamping technology with the process of lifting 3 rails without support on the ballast bed and tamping 4 rails for repairing diverging tracks. The machine is also capable of tamping 2 sleepers simultaneously while tamping the track, which makes it even more efficient. Work comfort is ensured by 4 closed, sound- and heat-insulated, ergonomic cabins equipped with computerised guidance and tamping equipment control systems.

The tamping machine, which is almost 43 m long, is one of the longest self-propelled machines operating on the Polish railway track, apart from the SUM surface replacement train and the RM85 gravel cleaner owned by the Company. Despite its size and kerb weight of 189 tonnes, the machine can move independently between worksites at speeds of up to 100 km/h. At present, the Unimat is being prepared at the base to commence operation, and we will soon be able to observe it in action on the construction sites executed by the Company.
