Seaport access in Gdańsk

Project details:

Within the framework of the project “Improvement of the railway infrastructure of access to the port of Gdańsk” there are two contracts in which we participated in a consortium with PUT Intercor. The first one, of which we were the leader, involved construction works on the line 227/249 together with Gdańsk Zaspa Towarowa station and the line 722. The second contract, of which PUT Intercor was the leader, concerned works on the line 226 together with Gdańsk Port Północny station and the line 965 and Gdańsk Kanał Kaszubski station.

As part of the subject of the contract, the works included the construction and reconstruction of all elements of the railway infrastructure, including the reconstruction of over 70 km of tracks with the catenary network with power supply systems, 13 rail-road crossings and pedestrian crossings, and the replacement of 221 turnouts. Engineering structures were reconstructed: 3 bridges, 2 viaducts and 18 culverts. A new viaduct with access roads was built over the tracks of the Gdańsk Kaszubski station, along Ku Ujście Street.

More efficient train traffic is ensured by an extensive local control center (LCS) that serves the modernized stations: Gdańsk Port Północny, Gdańsk Kaszubski Channel, Gdańsk Zaspa Towarowa. The LCS is equipped with new computer devices and telecommunication systems that ensure efficient and safe operation of train traffic.

Thanks to the modernization, the ports have been able to handle longer and heavier trains, and according to representatives of PKP PLK, the throughput of the stations has increased by 300 percent.
